ATM Money Bank

Introducing the ultimate in high tech piggy banks! The ATM Money Bank does it all for you and its pin/card operated so your money will be safely locked up until you need it!

The problem with standard piggy banks is that you never quite know how much youve saved, and theres no real way of keeping track of your debits and credits. Well thats where the ATM Money Bank really comes into its own - This Money bank has a built in computer that logs deposits and withdrawals and helps you maintain an accurate record of your monetary situation. The coin recognition system can immediately identify the value of each coin posted into the bank and will then add this to the running total which is displayed on the banks LCD screen. The system also accepts notes and will automatically draw these in through the notes slot, although the value of the note needs to be logged with each deposit.

The ATM Money Bank lets you target specific savings targets and will alert the user when these have been met. Users can also check their balance at any time and make a withdrawal that will also be logged. In order to make withdrawals, deposits or simply check your balance, users require the access card and a four digit pin code (as with a normal ATM); without this the bank will not respond so users can be sure their money is safely protected against potential theft from the poorest family member!

As the card is inserted into the ATM, the lights above the screen immediately turn on and the user is asked to enter their four digit pin code. Once this has been approved, the user can set savings targets, make deposits, check their balance and make withdrawals from the bank. The Bank also features a clock, calendar and alarm clock function; set it to remind you when its time to make deposits and add to your savings!

3 x AA Batteries included.

Xbox goes profitable almost like a grown up business

Xbox profit achievementAfter years of watching Microsoft chase billions of dollars into the bottomless pit that has been its Xbox Entertainment and Devices Division, the company is finally, as predicted, returning with some loot -- $524 million in income over the past six months, compared to $423 million in losses over the same period last year. Microsoft says the achievement was primarily due to 360 successes, even though Zune and PC sales are factored in there somewhere. Sounds like decreasing production costs, decreased marketing and a little thing called Halo 3 all worked together to help rake in the cash, and Microsoft has high hopes for the rest of fiscal 08, since they "expect revenue to increase due to increased sales of Xbox 360 consoles and related games, accessories, and services."

Apparently Nintendo isnt the only manufacturer this generation thats figured out how to make some money...

No Grand Theft Auto V Rockstar Game In 2009

The most recent issue of Game Informer contains "loose talk" that Rockstar Games is readying a new Grand Theft Auto, a fully-fledged follow up to GTA IV for the holidays.
Grand Theft Auto Series Game SnapshotAfter checking in with the Rockstar folks this week to check out the first downloadable episode, The Lost and Damned, which is due to hit the Xbox 360 next month. A second episode for Grand Theft Auto IV owners is planned to arrive before October 31, 2009, according to parent company Take-2 Interactive, but there is "no truth" to reports that a wholly new retail game, one on par with the scope of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, will arrive before the holidays.

And as for the chances of the next Grand Theft Auto game taking place in Tokyo, as speculated by Game Informers regular rumor column? Further requests for clarification on the subject went unanswered.

So, dont be surprised if the first two downloadable episodes already confirmed for Grand Theft Auto IV are just two of many. Rockstar vice president Dan Houser recently said to USA Today "We feel like weve only scratched the surface in terms of the depth and detail" of Liberty City.

An app to tell if someone is fibbing really

Memotion app is currently still in BETA, however the new update really has made it very accurate in guessing someones emotion just by their speech pattern. There is a Memo feature included which is a bit like "utter!" I guess.

It has a ‘quick analyse’ feature (voice recorder), so you can analyse anyone speaking at the press of a button and discover the true emotions behind what they were saying. Interesting to use it during speeches etc, or if the other half cant make it home because "they are working late" or find out about post NYE activities from a friend for a bit of fun.

As for guessing if someone its telling big fat fibs or little white lies, thats purely down to your interpretation of the information thats presented.

Interested ? Download a copy here from the Google Play Store.

LG Voyager VX10000

From the outset, the LG Voyager VX10000 looks more like the iPhone than it does its VX9800 and enV predecessors. Gone are the exterior keypad and tiny external display instead youre greeted by a vibrant touch screen that dominates the front face of the Voyager. As youd expect from a messaging phone, the Voyager is rather bulky.

At 4.64 by 2.12 by 0.71 inches, the Voyager is exactly as tall as the enV, but its also a bit wider when measured across the front face. Though the change from the VX9900 is noticeable, the Voyager manages to pack its keyboard as well as a long list of features into a trim profile thats a quarter of an inch trimmer than its forerunners. And at 4.69 ounces, it weighs in at a half an ounce lighter.

The result is an eye catching and slick design that is far more stylish than both the previous LG handsets. It also has a solid feel in the hand and the hinge construction is sturdy.

The touch screen measures 2.81 inches and supports 262,000 colors in a 400x240 pixel resolution. With sharp colors, graphics, and animation, its a massive improvement over the tiny and ineffective displays on the VX9800 and the enV.

And instead of supporting only certain features, you can use the touch screen to access almost all of the Voyagers offerings. In standby mode, the display shows the date, the time, battery life, signal strength, and photo caller ID. It also works as a viewfinder for the camera when the phone is open. You can change the backlight time, the menu font style, and the dialing font size.

To get started using the Voyager, just move your finger to the four controls at the bottom the bottom of the display (if the display is frozen, theres an on screen unlock control). From left to right, the buttons open the messaging menu, activate the on screen dial-pad for making calls, access the main menu, and open your contacts list. Alternatively, you can activate a shortcuts menu by tapping the top part of the display.

On the whole, we were pleased with our navigation experience. Selecting an option requires a firm touch, so we didnt have many problems with pressing a command accidentally. If youre having trouble, you can reset the screens calibration but its too bad you cant alter the touch sensitivity as well. While it lacks the iPhones multi touch functionality, and its resolution isnt quite as crisp, the Voyagers display counters with a nifty and useful offering of its own.

Like the Chocolate VX8550, the Voyager features tactile feedback on its touch controls. You can adjust the length and intensity of the vibrating feedback, which is a nice feature. Beyond simple tapping, you also can manipulate the Voyager by holding your finger to the screen and moving it around. Using this method, you can scroll through long menus and move around a Web page, but we had to practice a few times before we mastered either task.

For example, when scrolling through the main menu pages, we had to be careful not to select one of the options accidentally, which we did a few times. We got the hang of it eventually, but even then it felt a tad awkward. In the V Cast menus, you can use the right hand scroll bar as a more user-friendly alternative, but in other places that option is not available. Is it too much too ask for a little consistency?

The Voyager also has inconsistent methods for entering text on the touch screen. When typing a text message, we could use only the standard nine digit keypad. Yes, we realize that theres a keyboard inside for your messaging needs, but the external display does support a full QWERTY keyboard for typing URLs while surfing the Web (among other things). Yet we liked that, in either case, the on screen keys are large enough to avoid mistakes during fast typing. And it goes without saying that the tactile feedback marks a big improvement over the iPhone.

Sony Handycam HDR SR11

Sonys Handycam HDR-SR11 is among the cream of the hard drive AVCHD crop right now, and the same is true for its sister, the HDR-SR12, since the only difference between them is the size of their respective hard drives. (For this review, we tested an SR11.) The SR11 sports a 60GB drive, while the SR12 packs 120GB into its attractive HD recording body.

That body design is quite nice, though it does have some quirks and comes across as chunky compared with most flash based models. Its about the same size as a miniDV camcorder, thanks to its hard drive. Plus, that drive gives you a nice grip, while some flash camcorders have awkwardly designed grips.

Sony placed the controls well, however, you will have to use the 3.2 inch touch screen to get to some important functions, which can be an annoying way to use a camcorder.

The large size of the screen helps a bit compared with some other Sony models, but the screen is still fingerprint prone.

The fingerprints can be distracting when recording, and if you try to change a setting while shooting, youll likely end up jostling the camcorder while you make the change.

Thankfully, Sony included a small button up front, below the lens, for backlight compensation, so you wont have to hit the menus for that. Just above that button is the CAM CTL dial. It has a button on the front of it that lets you activate manual focus, exposure compensation, white balance shift, or shutter speed, though you can only assign one such function to the wheel at any given time.

This wouldnt be the end of the world, but you have to dig pretty deep into the menu to assign something to the wheel. Sony didnt call the menu item CAM CTL, instead it called it Dial Setting. True, its the only dial on the camcorder, but if youre going to label it the CAM CTL on the body, you should be consistent in the menu. My other main gripe about the body design is that Sony used a mini HDMI connector (Type C) instead of a normal size connector.

The mini cables are harder to find and more expensive. With a camcorder this size, Sony could have found room for a full size connector. I did like the doors that cover the various connectors though. The doors are plastic and have nifty hinges and slides to get them out of the way while using the jacks.

I was worried that the headphone or mic in jacks might not have enough room, but after trying several headphones with various size connectors, I was impressed that all fit amply. An Active Interface Shoe (Sonys proprietary hot shoe) sits atop the camcorder so you can add one of Sonys microphones or video lights.

Epson PictureMate Dash PM 260

The Epson PictureMate Dash (PM260) looks a lot like its predecessors, the PictureMates Pal, Snap, and Flash. It stands 13.6 inches wide, 9.1 inches deep, and 8.7 inches tall, and weighs just 5.3 pounds. Although it has traded the all silver look for a white and dark gray exterior, it retains the high tech picnic basket look with a pivoting handle and lid.

The lid opens to reveal the control panel, and also serves as the input support for photo paper. A panel on the front opens to catch prints. One big improvement over last years PictureMate lineup is the huge 3.6 inch LCD that flips up. This is larger than the LCD on the Flash, which was last years high end model.

The on board control panel consists of a menu button four direction keys and an OK button for navigating the menus a zoom button a thumbnail display key and stop and start buttons.

Two memory card slots are mounted on the front and accept most major types, though some will require an adapter (not included).

The printer also offers a USB port for connecting PictBridge devices, storage drives, and an optional Bluetooth adapter, but its located in the back.

Because the printer is small, its not difficult to turn it around to access the USB port, but it would be more convenient to have it on the front of the printer.

The PictureMate Dash comes with enough ink and paper to produce approximately 20 4x6 prints. It uses four color printing, and the ink comes in a single large cartridge that pops into a slot in the back of the printer. Paper and ink are sold together in print packs, with the amount of ink calibrated for the amount of paper. Epson offers both glossy and matte paper.

The glossy pack costs $38 and comes with 150 sheets of paper, while the matte pack costs $32.30 and comes with 100 sheets of paper. This works out to a per print cost (for paper and ink) of 25.3 cents for glossy and 32.3 cents for matte. These costs are in line with those from Epsons competitors.

Improvements new features in Microsoft Windows Vista SP2

It hasnt been too awfully long since Windows Vista SP1 hit the intertubes for real, but the Vista team is already talking up SP2. We all know Redmond is focused on moving beyond all of this Vista hoopla and forging ahead with Windows 7, but theres apparently still some work to do on the outfits current OS.

Windows vista SP2 snapshotUnfortunately, the latest update isnt exactly enthralling, as were given no set time frame for launch and were not shown any forthcoming changes that really get our juices flowing. For instance, Vista SP2 will add Windows Search 4.0 for faster and improved relevancy in searches, the Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack, ability to natively record data on Blu-ray media and Windows Connect Now (WCN) to simplify WiFi configuration. Waiting for your comments please........

MSI Wind pre release review

MSI Wind pre release reviewIts pretty tough to wrap your melon around, but MSIs Wind has not yet officially launched per se. That being said, it has still managed to end up in the hands of quite a few eager subnote lovers, and Laptop Mag is no exception.

Shortly after the UK branch of CNET posted up their initial impressions, along comes yet another mini-review to get you even more worked up about June 3rd. Heres the skinny so far:
the screen is amazing, keyboard is as well, the trackpad is simply too cramped and the port assortment is very respectable. All in all, critics were left "seriously impressed,"
and they even threw together a video and image gallery for checking out afterwards.

Microsoft Surface V S iPhone Which is better

Olympus Stylus 790 SW

Olympus Stylus 790 SW, like the Stylus 770 SW before it, is tough enough to shoot in 10 feet of water or when its 14 degrees Fahrenheit. Plus, it can withstand drops of up to 5 feet, so if youre klutzy, you wont have to worry quite as much. If you swim deeper than most, the 770 SW might be better for you than this model, since it can operate down to about 33 feet.

Other than that, a slightly different body design, and a new feature or two in the 790 SW, the two cameras are basically the same. If it didnt say so on the front of the camera, you might not think that the Stylus 790 SW is a waterproof camera. While last years 770 SWs body design screamed rugged, with its all metal construction and tougher than nails look, the 790 SW has a softer look, with plastic accents on the top, side, and front.

Also, the 790 SW is about one ounce lighter and comes in five bright colors, while the 770 SW only had three, more muted colors.

All of the cameras buttons are on the right side of the camera back, except the shutter and on or off buttons, which are on the top.

The mode dial, also accented with black plastic, is on the back, and in my opinion, a bit small. The plastic has little notches in it, though, so its thankfully not all that hard to turn.

Menus are separated into the shooting menu, accessed by pressing the OK button in the center of the four way rocker, and the main menu, which you get to by pressing the Menu button. The main menu lets you activate the silent mode quickly, but makes you choose a submenu before proceeding to anything else.

This slows things down a bit, but Olympus does organize the menus well, and the shooting menu and four way rocker let you quickly change anything you need while shooting. In our labs performance tests, the Stylus 790 SW had decent shot to shot times, but otherwise didnt impress. The camera took 1.3 seconds to start up and capture its first JPEG. Thereafter, it took 2.3 seconds between images with the flash turned off.

With the flash turned on, that wait increased to 3.2 seconds. Shutter lag measured 0.6 second in our high contrast test and 1.6 seconds in our low contrast test, which mimic bright and dim shooting conditions, respectively. In burst mode we were able to capture an average of 1.5 full resolution frames per second.

UK PS4 pre sales craziness

Almost all UK retailers have now sold out of PS4 pre-orders and only the larger bundles seem to be available at a high premium.

Game using their normal console release stupidity and "wanting" over £500 for their smallest bundle.

Very have sold out of PS4s until February however the Xbox One is still on pre-order for Xmas delivery (although Very use Yodel Delivery possibly the worst delivery company in the world, so I doubt they will actually manage to deliver on time)

Not sure if that says more about stock levels or pre-orders levels, one thing is certain though. Demand is strong and if Europe follows the US in terms of sales, then Sony could have seriously dented Microsofts plans for domination this generation.

Its worth pointing out that the PS4 has sold 1 million on launch day alone in the US, thats Xboxs home turf. In Europe, PlayStation has always been king. Could we see Sony return to form after PS3 had a very tricky time, only of late has it outsold the Xbox on a global scale.

Samsung 3D VOD Service in Korea Coming to US and Europe Soon

Samsung 3D VOD Service
Samsung is apparently an early adopter of this technology. Great news for Samsung 3DTV owners with nothing to watch on their TVs. If you are one of those customers left in the list, Samsung seems to have considered your complaint. The company has officially rolled out 3D video-on-demand streaming service to these televisions.

Samsung announced a partnership with DreamWorks that would see "a new streaming 3D Video-On-Demand (VOD) service that would make DreamWorks Animation content - trailers and promotions in both 3D and 2D- available for streaming via the 3D application for Samsung Smart TVs in 2011. The machine-translated, but it looks like movie trailers, music videos and childrens education films will start things off, before full-length features and more are added later on.

Korea has given the official doze to Samsung to bring in 3D service. The US and Europe will immediately follow Korea that means you need to be ready for some amazing 3D content from Samsung coming your way out in other parts of the world too... We are yet to get pricing details at the moment, but there is a chance that the launch dates and prices will be announced any time soon.

Portable U V Monitor

Now heres a rather useful contraption. In these days of enhanced solar exposure (thats people spending longer in the sun, to you and me) not to mention the whole planet getting warmer, it makes sense to know what youre getting into. How much sun is getting to your skin. And how much is too much. And thats where this thoughtfully-designed Portable UV Monitor comes in.
At just 8cm in length its a fully portable Ultra Violet Radiation Index Meter. A breeze to carry around wherever you go, it measures and records the UV level in your precise proximity and provides an easily digestible reading, from low to high. But heres the really clever bit. It doesnt just give you a UV-based readout and leave you to work out the rest. Dear no. It then goes on to calculate your optimal exposure time based on your skin type and even the SPF of the suncream youre wearing. Magic. It then goes one step further by providing a user-defined countdown timer that alerts you when youre nicely brown on both sides, or, in the case of my wife, Mrs gadgetshop, toast.

Unofficial Android 4 4 Updates Are Now Available For The T Mobile And International Galaxy Note 3

Galaxy-Note-3-012

If you own a Galaxy Note 3, it seems that today is your lucky day because an unofficial build of the Android 4.4 kit Kat update has surfaced for the Note 3. That is, at least for the T-Mobile and International versions. This marks the release of the first AOSP unofficial ROM for the Galaxy Note 3 in either of these two variants, and if you’re eager and tired of running on an older version of the Android software, it’s time to pull up your bootstraps and do some legwork to get your device running on the newest version of Android. Before you go crazy though it’s worth mentioning that you should proceed with strong caution on loading this onto your device, as this LiquidSmooth ROM is still in the early stages of development so there are probably more bugs than one would want for a daily driver.

This release comes to us from XDA Senior Member deadman96385, who has been working effortlessly to get this ROM up and running. As stated above, there are some bugs to make note of, not the least of which is random data drops. You also might notice the inability to hang up a phone call, which might prove troublesome for a few people. Although these bugs are no small matter, they’re part of small list of bugs with the emphasis on the word small, so if you want to check out what LiquidSmooth is all about, don’t let a couple bugs stop you from updating. Both previously mentioned bugs are reported as being present for both Note 3 variants, so it’s not an isolated issue to one or the other. Other bugs include lack of audio(although we’re not sure if everyone will experience this bug but it is present) and it seems that the international variant of this ROM has problems with mounting the SD.6e0z01These bugs are sure to receive plenty of attention from deadman to iron things out, but if you have an understanding of things like these you can feel free to join in on either XDA thread and contribute to making these issues go away. All said and done this looks to be like a pretty interesting ROM for the Galaxy Note 3, and if you want to test it out, head on over to the T-Mobile thread, or the International thread to get started. It goes without saying that you have to be rooted with an unlocked bootloader to get these ROM’s up and running on your own device, and make sure to read everything before you attempt doing anything.

Speed up iOS development with Google Cloud Platform

Mobile backends enable you to create connected mobile apps without writing server-side code. Today we are simplifying server-side development for iOS developers with Mobile Backend Starter for iOS. With our Mobile Backend and Objective-C client libraries you can:

  • Store data in the cloud and share between users

  • Send device-to-device push notifications

  • Use continuous queries to notify devices of data changes

  • Authenticate users using Google Accounts

Mobile developer Ryan Harter used Mobile Backend Starter to grow his Hashnote app usage from 3,000 users to 20,000:

“Mobile Backend Starter allowed me to focus on the Android app, while ensuring that I had an efficient backend. Most importantly, the backend isnt a black box thats intended to be the be all and end all, keeping me locked in. I was able to extend the backend to include Hashnote specific logic, while learning how Google implemented the initial feature set from the open source code.”

The Mobile Backend Starter is a Google App Engine application, so you can support hundreds of concurrent users at no charge. This source code for the entire app, both the backend as well as the Android and iOS clients, is available on Github, so you are free to explore and add specific customizations if you wish.

Getting Started

You can try out the Mobile Backend Starter on an iPhone or iPad in just a few steps (further details here):

1. Provision your backend on App Engine

2. Download the iOS client zip file (or clone from GitHub repository)

3. Run the sample on a physical device (note: the sample does not run on the iOS simulator)

You use our framework classes to interact with the deployed backend as if it was local to the device. We incorporated our recent work to deliver scalable, reliable push notifications to thousands of iOS devices via the Apple Push Notification Service.

The same set of features exists for both Android and iOS, and the backend manages the platform specifics such as using Google Cloud Messaging for Android and APNS for iOS devices. You can follow these instructions to set up the backend for Android, or watch our Google I/O session.

Fast is better than slow

A few weeks ago, we launched a plug-in for Symbian devices that put a Google search shortcut onto the phones home screen. This shortcut reduces the time it takes for you to get answers from Google by eliminating the initial search steps (e.g. finding the browser application, opening it, and navigating to Google.com before entering your query). The same plug-in has been available for BlackBerry devices since last December. Today, were making this available for Windows Mobile devices too.

If youre a Windows Mobile user, browse to mobile.google.com on your device to download the plug-in and start searching faster than ever. Once you do, we think youll find it so much faster and easier that youll start conducting more mobile web searches than you ever had before. How do we know this? Well, when we look at the combined usage numbers for BlackBerry and Symbian versions of this plug-in, we see that users are able to get Google search results up to 40 percent faster. And, BlackBerry and Symbian users with the plug-in installed search 20 percent more than those without it.

We saw something similar after we launched an updated interface for Gmail on the iPhone during MacWorld earlier this year. Lots of iPhone users tried the new interface (hence the bump in Gmail pageviews between January and February), but they didnt stick around like we hoped they would. Over the course of the next few weeks, we made some tweaks to drastically improve the speed of the product, and Gmail pageviews on the iPhone not only stabilized, but began to rise, as the graph below shows:
This link between increased usage and a faster user experience -- be it search or mobile Gmail -- reinforces something we at Google have known for a long time: Fast is better than slow. With mobile applications, were seeing that fast is much better than slow. Although this may seem pretty intuitive, its always nice to see new data backing this up. Moving forward, well continue to focus on bringing you the fastest and most compelling mobile experiences that we can. So stay tuned!
